Evelyn Berry is the trans, Southern author of Grief Slut (Sundress Publications, 2024). She is the founder of Ecstatic Stanzas, which offers editorial, coaching, and marketing services for creative writers.

Evelyn is also the author of three poetry chapbooks, Buggery (Bateau Press, 2020), winner of the 2020 BOOM Chapbook Prize, Glitter Husk (2019), and Skinny Dipping with Strangers (2014) and dozens of zines.

She's a recipient of a 2023 National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship, 2022 Dr. Linda Veldheer Memorial Prize, 2019 Broad River Prize for Prose, and 2018 Emrys Poetry Prize, among other honors.

Her poems have appeared in South Carolina Review, Gigantic Sequins, Beloit Poetry Journal, Raleigh Review, Identity Theory, ANMLY, Longleaf Review, Taco Bell Quarterly, and elsewhere. Her fiction has appeared in Fall Lines, Petigru Review, and The Inkling.

She is a literary organizer who has worked with collectives and non-profits including The Unspoken Word, Speakeasy, Whiskey Writers, and most recently Queer Writers of Columbia. She’s lead workshops at community centers, universities, high schools, elementary schools, writing groups, conferences, festivals, and elsewhere since 2014.

Evelyn has performed in venues across the Southeast, including the Gallaird Center for Performing Arts, Columbia Museum of Art, Charleston Music Hall, Dock Street Theatre, Queen Street Theatre, Pure Theatre, Asheville Art Museum, and elsewhere, including festivals, house shows, open mics, reading series, universities, hostels, bookstores, and elsewhere.

She lives in Columbia, South Carolina with her partner and their pets, where she works as a library communications strategist and freelance editor.
